StartLab.Brussels is Brussels' premier early-stage incubator dedicated to empowering first-time entrepreneurs and academics in building impactful startups. Co-led by the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), StartLab.Brussels offers a dynamic and supportive environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds to transform their ideas and research into successful ventures. Our Story Established in 2002 with the launch of the Start Academy, a pioneering initiative to raise awareness about entrepreneurship among students, ULB expanded its commitment in 2016 by launching Start.LAB, its first incubator for student entrepreneurs. In 2018, VUB created Start.VUB with a similar mission. In 2022, the two incubators merged to become StartLab.Brussels, a trilingual initiative co-led by ULB and VUB, supported by academic founders Prof. Olivier Witmeur (ULB) and Prof. Thomas Crispeels (VUB). Today, StartLab.Brussels is a united and dynamic hub empowering first-time entrepreneurs and academics from all backgrounds. Our Values We care : We are people-driven. Our Programs StartLab.Brussels offers tailored programs for both entrepreneurs and academics: Entrepreneurship Program : Designed for individuals aiming to build or grow their own business, this program is divided into three tracks: Explore : For those curious about entrepreneurship but without a specific idea. Build : For individuals with an idea or problem to solve, helping them build their idea into a viable business. Grow : For early-stage startups looking to scale and reach the next level. Academics Program : Aimed at university researchers looking to turn their research into a business, this program also offers Build and Grow tracks to support the commercialization of academic research. Our Impact Since 2016, StartLab.Brussels has launched over 185 startups and supported more than 950 entrepreneurs. With a 91% startup survival rate after three years, our vibrant community and strong network continue to drive innovation and positive change in Brussels and beyond.
