De Warande

De Warande, established in 1988, serves as a distinguished club for Flemish individuals in Brussels. Originally conceived to bolster the Flemish presence in the capital, it has evolved over the past thirty-five years into a symbol of Flanders' prosperity, dynamism, and international orientation. The term "warande" historically referred to a meadow where draft horses grazed to regain strength. Today, De Warande embodies this concept as a figurative meadow—a place where members can recharge their knowledge and share ideas. It offers a second home for individuals from economic, academic, political, and artistic spheres who aspire to make a difference. The club fosters an environment of respect for diverse opinions and convictions, believing that embracing such diversity leads to new insights. De Warande's journey began in 1980 with the establishment of the 'Project V.C.G' working group, also known as 'Vlaamse Cercle Gaulois,' comprising Guy Borgerhoff, Lode Campo, Rik Decan, Gilbert Van Belleghem, and Piet Van Waeyenberge. In 1985, the club acquired the Empain building, and by 1987, it announced its forthcoming establishment through a press conference. The official opening took place in 1988, with Lode Campo as chairman and Anne Lybaert as director. Notably, in 1993, the club celebrated its fifth anniversary with a concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, now known as the Antwerp Symphonic Orchestra. During the 2020 pandemic, De Warande adapted by organizing weekly online activities, Warande walks, bubble BBQs, a corona club restaurant, and an open-air café. In 2023, the club marked its 35th anniversary with an interview featuring its founding fathers. De Warande offers a diverse range of activities designed to inspire and connect its members. These include working lunches, debate evenings, and club tables, all aimed at bringing Flemish individuals together around engaging stories. Members are encouraged to bring guests, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas. By connecting people and broadening horizons, De Warande believes in achieving valuable changes that benefit all. The club provides a dynamic venue for these interactions, preferring a lively house over a dull office setting. The club's facilities cater to various needs, offering spaces for receptions, lunches, dinners with friends, acquaintances, or work-related contacts, as well as peaceful and comfortable meeting rooms. The new Warande working year commenced with the appointment of two new chairpersons: Mr. Patrick Maselis was appointed Chairman of De Warande vzw by the General Assembly, and Mr. Jan-Felix Nédée was elected Chairman of the Youth Council by the Board of Directors. Additionally, De Warande launched a contemporary, user-friendly, and interactive website, maintaining its signature style and allure.
