Essenscia is the Belgian federation representing the chemical industry and life sciences sector, encompassing over 720 companies active in chemistry, plastics, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. These member companies, ranging from international corporations to SMEs, collectively account for 95% of the sector's total turnover. Essenscia also serves as the sector's spokesperson in the media and advocates for the interests of the chemical and life sciences industries at all political levels. This includes active participation in the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) and the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (FEB). Notably, the port of Antwerp hosts the largest integrated chemical cluster in Europe and one of the most important globally, with twelve of the world's fifteen largest chemical companies having production sites there.
