The European Research Institute for Gas and Energy Innovation (ERIG a.i.s.b.l.) is a European research and development organization dedicated to guiding the role of gas and innovative gas technologies in the transition towards a renewable-based energy system. As a non-profit association, ERIG fosters European cooperation in research and innovation within the fields of sustainable and innovative gas technologies, as well as the integration of natural gas with renewable energies. (erig.eu ) ERIG's mission is to advance the role of gas and innovative gas technologies in the future energy system, working in synergy with intermittent renewable energy production. The organization envisions an integrated systemic approach to the energy transition, emphasizing the importance of gas and gas infrastructure in achieving a sustainable energy supply system. (erig.eu ) At the core of ERIG's activities is research and development. The organization strives to develop new ideas, establish, and apply for gas and energy research and innovation projects at the European level. This is supported by knowledge exchange, networking, communication, and dissemination efforts. ERIG hosts a platform comprising national research institutes and selected energy industry partners from countries represented by ERIG Country Members. The organization promotes cooperation by organizing internal conferences and managing an active online community. (erig.eu ) ERIG's organizational structure includes a General Assembly composed of Country Members, each represented with one chair in the Board of Directors. The ERIG Office, led by the Secretary General, supports these bodies. A Scientific Advisory Board, consisting of leading scientists from each member country, advises the Board of Directors on scientific matters and acts as an intermediary to ERIG's Topic Groups. These Topic Groups focus on areas of interest related to the energy transition, including Renewable & Decarbonised Gas, Smart Energy Systems, and the North Sea region. (erig.eu ) ERIG is actively involved in several European research projects that are highly relevant to the role of gas in the energy transition. These projects cover a wide range of topics and levels of detail, reflecting the organization's commitment to promoting European research on gas and energy innovation. (erig.eu ) Through its comprehensive approach to research, development, and collaboration, ERIG aims to contribute significantly to the future of the energy industry, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.
