Brussels School of Governance

The Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) is a distinguished educational institution dedicated to the study and practice of governance. Formed through a strategic alliance between the Institute for European Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Vesalius College, BSoG offers a comprehensive range of programs and research initiatives aimed at addressing contemporary societal challenges. Situated in the heart of the European Union, BSoG serves as a leading hub for interdisciplinary teaching and innovative research. The institution focuses on understanding and addressing major societal issues such as migration and diversity, digital and green transitions, climate change, the evolving global economy, and geopolitical competition. Through its internationally accredited university programs, BSoG equips students with analytical tools and critical thinking skills essential for engaging with complex global issues. The institution fosters an environment that brings together students, researchers, policymakers, and societal stakeholders committed to understanding Europe in a rapidly changing world. Established in 1987, Vesalius College offers students a unique university-level educational experience. The Institute for European Studies has a longstanding reputation in research on the international role and standing of the EU. Since September 2025, Vesalius College has been formally renamed to 'Brussels School of Governance - Vesalius College'. BSoG pursues its research and teaching through four specialized research centers, each focusing on key societal dynamics and challenges: The Centre for Digitalisation, Democracy and Innovation (CD2I) analyzes the ongoing digital transformation of society. The Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy (C3E) operates at the crossroads of today's turbulent transitions. The Centre for Migration, Diversity and Justice (C-MDJ) focuses on the multilevel governance and politics of immigration, justice and home affairs, immigrant integration, diversity, and equality. The Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) seeks to contribute to a better understanding of key contemporary security and diplomatic challenges of the 21st century and their impact on Europe. The in-house expertise of BSoG is further strengthened by close collaborations with an international network of partners, including the United Nations University, among others. BSoG offers a variety of programs across different levels of education: Undergraduate Programs : Bachelor's degrees in fields such as International Affairs, Global Business and Entrepreneurship, and Communication and Public Relations. Graduate Programs : Master's degrees including the MA in Diplomacy and Global Governance. Postgraduate Programs : Advanced studies and research opportunities in various disciplines. Short Programs and Certificate Programs : Specialized courses designed for professional development. PhD Supervisions : Opportunities for doctoral research under expert supervision. The Executive Committee of BSoG is accountable to the Board of the institution. The President of the Board is Prof. Dr. Karel De Gucht. Board members include Sven Biscop, Caroline Buts, Eva De Bleeker, Robert Farkas, Gloria Gonzalez Fuster, Frank Hoffmeister, Tony Joris, Trisha Meyer, Leo Van Audenhove, Nic Van Craen, Wendy Van den Broeck, and Freddy Van Den Spiegel.
