Brussel Cultuur

The Flemish Community Commission (Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie, VGC) serves as the Dutch-speaking authority in the Brussels-Capital Region, dedicated to supporting and enhancing Dutch-language life across various sectors, including education, culture, and healthcare. By providing financial, material, and other forms of support, VGC aims to foster a vibrant Dutch-speaking community in Brussels. Brussels is a city teeming with ideas and activities. The 22 Brussels community centers offer a diverse range of opportunities for residents to discover new interests, meet people, and actively participate in shaping their neighborhoods. Whether you're already engaged in community activities or seeking a project that resonates with you, these centers provide inspiration and avenues for involvement. On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm, Tracé Brussel vzw is organizing 'Ik zoek' for the 14th time. This free education fair, titled 'I find my education,' focuses on work and Dutch-language (vocational) training and will be held at LaVallée in Molenbeek. Three non-profit organizations—Nascivzw, Arlette, and Sportswitch—are dedicated to supporting people living in poverty, young families, and promoting a more sustainable Brussels. They are organizing a collection campaign for the third time in 17 Brussels Community Centers. Throughout the month of May, residents are encouraged to donate children's clothing, baby items, or sports equipment they no longer use at any of the participating Community Centers. For a decade, Erfgoedbank Brussel has been preserving and sharing the stories, photos, and memories of the city, capturing both small anecdotes and grand historical events. From May 21 to June 25, everyone is welcome at the Brussels Platform for the Elderly (BOp) to browse, listen, celebrate, and contribute their own memories to this rich tapestry of Brussels' heritage. The United Nations has declared 2026 the International Year of the Volunteer (IVY 2026). Volunteers are indispensable to many initiatives by the VGC and its partners. In 2026, we celebrate the volunteers who contribute to making Brussels a vibrant and inclusive city. From toddlers in daycare to the elderly in local service centers, everyone is welcome in North Brussels at every stage of life. Whether at school, in a community center, playing sports, or learning new skills, individuals can engage alone or with friends, neighbors, or family. Together, we make Brussels a dynamic and inclusive community.
