Fablab iMAL

iMAL (interactive Media Art Laboratory) is a non-profit association based in Brussels, Belgium, founded in 1999. It integrates an art center that hosts various public events such as exhibitions, lectures, and concerts with a media lab for artists to research, experiment, and exchange ideas about new technologies. iMAL serves as a meeting place for artists, scientists, and creative individuals, providing a laboratory and workspace for artists in residence and supporting their experimentation, research, and production processes. The organization collaborates with Belgian colleagues and facilitates regular meetings between creative professionals, innovative technology companies, and research institutions. It offers professional masterclasses, workshops, and public events designed to raise awareness of the creative use and critical examination of information technologies. In 2007, iMAL established its center for digital cultures and technology, and in 2019, it launched a Fablab Residency program for artists, designers, engineers, and developers to develop new creative projects using digital manufacturing machines. Recently, iMAL has been involved in exhibitions like the Transmediale festival in Berlin and is undergoing renovation works to build a new 3-storey center for digital art and culture, set to open in autumn 2019. For more updated activities and news, iMAL has transitioned to a new website.
