Level Five is an artist-run cooperative studio established in Brussels in 2019, dedicated to supporting and developing artistic practices through collective organization and management of spaces. Currently operating three studio buildings, Level Five caters to over 100 artists, with a notable waiting list reflecting the high demand for artist studio spaces in the city. The cooperative is committed to fostering a sustainable infrastructure for the arts, providing affordable studio space while advocating for artists' rights and resources. The organization emphasizes the importance of all its members, regardless of whether they occupy a studio, in maintaining a stable community ground. Its governance includes a board of experts and members that supports the cooperative's operations, alongside councils and coordinators responsible for daily management tasks. Members engage in democratic decision-making processes and various forums to shape the cooperative's direction and respond to challenges. Level Five is focused on cultivating a culture of mutual support and alliances among artists, addressing the lack of a dedicated artist studio policy in Brussels. The shared spaces are designed to facilitate social interactions and artistic presentations, bridging the gap between creation and exhibition. Inclusion is a core value, promoting diversity across backgrounds and artistic disciplines, which enhances the cooperative’s mission of allowing multiple perspectives to be expressed within the larger cultural and societal context of Brussels.
