Openfab

OpenFab is a Brussels-based FabLab and project of the non-profit organization Syntonie, aimed at empowering local reindustrialization through digital tools and community support. Established in 2012, OpenFab serves as a platform to help individuals overcome barriers such as lack of space, tools, knowledge, or motivation, transforming mere ideas into realities. The FabLab fosters community connections by promoting exchanges of know-how, sharing resources, and engaging in hands-on practice. OpenFab's community is comprised of self-taught, curious, and passionate members—professionals and hobbyists alike—who gather to explore digital fabrication. While the organization provides access to machines and space, it does not offer traditional training, but rather encourages peer-to-peer learning and practical self-study. Members can engage with the community through workshops, events, and volunteering opportunities, but must communicate their specific project needs via a contact form, as OpenFab does not guarantee responses. The facility is located at 158 rue Gray in Ixelles, featuring a range of equipment, including a laser cutter, CNC machine, 3D printer, sewing machine, and various tools. Membership costs €25 per year, granting access to community events and internal decision-making processes, while maintaining a citizen initiative governance free from political or economic pressures. Financial support is generated through member fees and usage rates, ensuring sustainability and active participation.
