Bio-based Industries Consortium

The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing a sustainable circular bioeconomy in Europe. Established in 2013, BIC represents the private sector in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the European Commission, focusing on strengthening the bio-based industries sector across the continent. (biconsortium.eu ) Mission and Vision BIC's mission is to build innovative bio-based value chains by developing new biorefining technologies, optimizing feedstock use, and creating a favorable business and policy climate to accelerate market acceptance of bio-based products. Their vision is to make Europe's innovative, sustainable, and competitive bio-based industry the leader of a circular bio society in Europe by 2050. Industry members span the entire value chain, from primary production to market, covering sectors such as agriculture and agri-food, aquaculture and marine, chemicals and materials (including bioplastics), forestry, pulp and paper, technology providers, and waste management and treatment. Associate members consist of research organizations, academia, trade associations, and other entities interested in the bio-based industries sector. (biconsortium.eu ) Strategic Partnerships BIC serves as the private partner in the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), a two-billion-euro public-private partnership with the European Commission. This partnership aims to support the large-scale commercialization of high-quality bio-based products through investment in innovative manufacturing facilities and processes, as well as in biorefining research and demonstration projects.
