The European Alliance for Plant-based Foods (EAPF) is a coalition of organizations committed to integrating plant-based foods into the transition towards more sustainable and healthy food systems. The Alliance represents the entire plant-based value chain, including food producers and manufacturers, NGOs, nutritionists, research and academia, and consumers. Mission and Objectives EAPF's mission is to place plant-based foods at the heart of the transition towards more sustainable and healthy food systems. The Alliance advocates for policies that support plant-based foods, promotes clear food labelling to empower consumers, ensures fair market access for plant-based products, and encourages research and innovation in sustainable plant-based food solutions. Key Priorities Sustainable Food Systems : Promoting policies at European and national levels that support plant-based foods and recognize their essential role in the transition to sustainable food systems. Food Labelling : Supporting clear food information on plant-based foods to guide and empower consumers in making healthier and more sustainable choices. Fair Market Access : Advocating for a level playing field between plant-based and animal-based products to secure consumers' equal access to healthy and sustainable foods. Research and Innovation : Encouraging and actively promoting innovation towards sustainable plant-based food solutions that address environmental and health challenges. Call to Action EAPF calls on EU and national policymakers to: Provide incentives for sustainable practices in farming and the food processing industry. Allocate more funds to research and innovation on plant-based alternatives to animal-based products under Horizon Europe and other funding programmes. Create fair market access for plant-based foods across Europe and remove existing barriers. Recognize the benefits of plant-based foods for people, animals, and the planet and encourage initiatives to promote them. Allow food manufacturers to clearly communicate about their products towards consumers through the use of commonly understood terminology. Establish an evidence-based framework for sustainable food labelling, providing transparent information about the nutritional and environmental value of foods.
