The European Institute of Peace (EIP) is an independent organization dedicated to designing and delivering sustainable peace processes and agreements. By providing practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution, EIP aims to address and resolve armed conflicts and threats to life and livelihoods through effective dialogue and inclusive peace processes. (eip.org ) EIP's mission is to catalyze and invest in opportunities for non-violent conflict resolution that respond to the needs and hopes of people most at risk, thereby optimizing Europe's contribution to sustainable peace. The Institute operates in over twenty locations worldwide, combining the agility of an independent organization with the diplomatic reach of its board and proximity to the European Union and European states. (eip.org ) The Institute's work is structured across two units: Engagement, Dialogue and Process Design; and Peace Practice and Innovation. These units collaborate across geographic and thematic areas to approach conflict resolution from multiple angles, employing a 360-degree approach. This approach transcends traditional hierarchies by engaging all sectors of society affected by conflict, including politicians, armed groups, marginalized communities, media influencers, academics, women's movements, trade unions, business leaders, political activists, tribal leaders, and religious representatives. The goal is to give voice to diverse narratives, uncover sources of power and influence, address underlying grievances, and create spaces for resolution within complex and entrenched conflict dynamics. (eip.org ) EIP's activities are demand-driven and informed by careful analysis, including the political economy, root causes of conflict, and the motives, goals, and core interests of parties involved. Guided by international law, human rights, and a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability, the Institute works collaboratively with parties to conflict, European decision-makers, local and regional stakeholders, and the conflict resolution and mediation community. (eip.org ) Headquartered in Brussels, EIP manages initiatives in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Examples of the Institute's work include supporting marginalized groups and women to engage in dialogue in Yemen; empowering the voices of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons to influence European and others' political engagement; providing technical assistance to national peace authorities in Afghanistan; and sharing lessons from the peace process in Colombia. (eip.org ) In May 2026, EIP presented its Strategic Direction 2026-28, titled "Creating Space for Peace in a Troubled World," outlining its vision and mission for the coming years. (eip.org ) The European Institute of Peace is located at Rue des Deux Eglises, 25, 1000 Brussels, Belgium. (eip.org )
