The International Raw Materials Observatory (INTRAW) is a non-profit international association dedicated to fostering global collaboration in mineral raw materials research and innovation. Established as a long-lasting and self-sustained spin-off of the EU-funded INTRAW project (2015–2018), the Observatory serves as an impartial mediator, promoting diplomacy, dialogue, and independent expert analysis to support the exchange of best practices and cooperative solutions to shared challenges. (intraw.eu ) INTRAW's primary focus areas include: Research & Innovation : Facilitating worldwide cooperation on cutting-edge research and innovation in the field of mineral raw materials. Education & Outreach : Promoting knowledge exchange and outreach activities to enhance awareness and understanding of critical raw materials. Industry & Trade : Engaging in dialogues and independent expert analyses to advance industry practices, trade relations, and market dynamics in the mineral raw materials sector. Recycling, Management & Substitution : Advocating responsible recycling practices and exploring strategies for effective management and substitution of strategic raw materials, with a focus on sustainability. (intraw.eu ) To achieve its objectives, the Observatory offers a range of services: Reports & Factsheets : Providing comprehensive information on mineral raw materials. World Barometer : Delivering periodic reports on opportunities and threats related to mineral raw materials provision. Data Repository : Offering members access to background information relevant to the raw materials sector. Foresight Studies : Conducting analyses on sector trends to inform strategic planning. Platform for Dialogues : Organizing high-level summits involving representatives of international intergovernmental organizations to facilitate discussions on mineral raw materials. (intraw.eu ) A notable initiative by INTRAW is the Mineral Commodity Intelligence System , a subscription-based data platform that enables stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the production and trade flows of commodities. This system is anticipated to provide valuable support for the implementation of the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act at the national level. (intraw.eu ) INTRAW's core values are built around the concept of acting as an honest broker—serving as an impartial international mediator specialized in the minerals value chain to support the exchange of best practices and cooperative solutions to shared challenges. By promoting responsible management of mineral raw materials, INTRAW aims to shape a sustainable future and build a global community committed to advancing best practices, fostering innovation, and securing the availability of raw materials for generations to come.
