INSTITUTE FOR EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

The Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) is a Brussels-based sustainability think tank established in 1976. For five decades, IEEP has provided policymakers across Europe with sound, science-based analysis and recommendations, playing a pivotal role in shaping European environmental legislation. (ieep.eu ) As an independent, unbiased, and evidence-based institute, IEEP is committed to supporting organizations in navigating the European environmental policy landscape and advancing impact-driven sustainability policies across the EU and beyond. The multidisciplinary team collaborates with EU institutions, international organizations, academia, and civil society, offering integrated approaches and diverse perspectives across several research areas, including agri-food, biodiversity, land use, trade, climate, and the circular economy. (ieep.eu ) To complement its work on specific policy proposals and strategies that are part of the European Green Deal, IEEP launched the European Green Deal Barometer. This initiative offers a holistic analysis of the plan and its implementation status. The European Green Deal, introduced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in December 2019, is a transformative agenda aimed at achieving climate neutrality in the European Union by 2050. Recognizing the challenges associated with aligning all Member States and effectively communicating the plan to EU citizens, IEEP initiated the European Green Deal Barometer in 2021. This annual survey assesses the status of Green Deal implementation by consulting sustainability experts across Europe. The results of the first two consultations are available, and the third edition was launched in early 2023. (ieep.eu ) In 2026, IEEP celebrates its 50th anniversary. Throughout the year, the institute features messages, reflections, and videos from colleagues, friends, allies, and supporters, highlighting key moments in EU policymaking and IEEP's contributions over the past five decades. (ieep.eu ) IEEP's work is produced with the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
