Argo, the Hellenic Network in Brussels, is an international non-profit association established to unite Greeks working in the private sector across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (BENELUX). (argo-network.eu ) The network aims to foster solidarity among its members, promote a positive image of Greece within social and business circles, and build partnerships with similar organizations both in Brussels and internationally. (argo-network.eu ) The inception of Argo dates back to early March 2014, when approximately 20 Greek professionals recognized the absence of a representative body for Greeks in the private sector, unlike their counterparts in international organizations or commerce. This realization led to a series of discussions and culminated in the network's inaugural meeting on April 8, 2014, at a prominent Brussels hotel. During this meeting, the Articles of Association were approved, and the name "Argo – Hellenic Network in Brussels" was adopted. A five-member executive committee was also unanimously elected to guide the network's activities. (argo-network.eu ) Membership in Argo is open to Greeks employed in the private sector within the BENELUX region who accept the association's statutes and pay an annual membership fee of 50 euros. Exceptionally, the Executive Committee may approve the membership of Greek-speaking individuals who do not hold Greek nationality. Additionally, Greek nationals working in European institutions or representing Greece therein, as well as accredited journalists, can join as friends of Argo and participate in its events under the same conditions as regular members. (argo-network.eu ) Argo is governed by an Executive Committee comprising seven members elected by the General Assembly. The current members include: Spyros Pappas (President and General Director) Sakis Kotsis (Vice President) Panagiota Balopoulou (Treasurer) Christos Bezirtzoglou Konstantinos Diamantouros Eirini Konstantinidou Marina Papadatou (argo-network.eu ) In 2017, Argo's statutes were approved by Royal Decree, officially recognizing it as an international non-profit association under Belgian law. The statutes were amended in 2024 to align with the Code of Companies and Associations. (argo-network.eu ) Argo's mission encompasses several key objectives: Addressing current issues pertinent to Greece and the European Union. Promoting the European ideal through reflection, communication, and the development of related proposals, leveraging the expertise of its members. Highlighting the experience, network, and expertise of its members in the formulation and implementation of EU policies, particularly those concerning Greece. Forming sub-groups within the association based on thematic interests or composition. Supporting the establishment of equivalent associations bearing the "Argo" name followed by the city where they are constituted, both within EU member states and third countries, to maximize and achieve the association's objectives at the European level. (argo-network.eu ) Through these initiatives, Argo strives to strengthen the bonds among Greek professionals in the private sector, enhance Greece's image abroad, and contribute meaningfully to the European discourse.
