FARI - AI for the Common Good Institute is a collaborative, not-for-profit initiative by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels, focused on leveraging AI, data, and robotics to address local challenges and promote sustainable development. It aims to enhance public administration services, engage local organizations, SMEs, and individuals, and foster the participation of civil society in consultation and design processes. FARI will establish coaching programs to support AI, data, and robotics initiatives, leading to proof of concepts and market strategies. The institute connects 300 researchers from various AI, data, and robotics groups at VUB and ULB to make science and innovation more accessible to society. FARI works on both local and international projects, using Brussels as a testing ground for sustainable transitions. The institute is dedicated to disseminating research findings for the common good, exemplified by projects such as R2poweR, which focuses on human-robot collaboration through innovative gearbox design.
